Emerald Isle and Bikefest
Emerald Isle & Bikefest
2 – 6 June 2011
6 Days, 5 Nights, approx 963 miles + Rideouts
Join our guided tour through Ireland, to the beautiful town of Killarney for Irish Bike Fest. Come along for the craic, the friendly atmosphere, and some of the most beautiful biking roads Ireland has to offer.
[Ladies View]
Day 1: 07:30 We’ll leave Ponteland early this morning, and ride westwards following the course of Hadrian’s Wall, before turning north towards Bonnie Scotland and our rendezvous point at Gretna Green. Built by the Romans almost 2000 years ago, Hadrian’s Wall stretches across the country from the east coast to the west coast, and marked the northernmost boundary of the Roman Empire. We’ll have our tour briefing over a welcome coffee at Gretna, then head for the ferry at Stranraer, which will take us across to Larne, in Northern Ireland. After a light lunch on the ferry, we disembark and ride south to our overnight stay in County Monaghan, just over the border in the Republic of Ireland. 226 miles.
Day 2: Heading south towards Killarney, we’ll be following the beautifully scenic coastal route to Kilrush, where we catch the ferry across the Shannon to Tarbert, through Tralee and on to our home for the next three nights, Killarney. 257 miles
Days 3-4: Free days to enjoy the Bike Fest. There’ll be lots to do here, bands, demo rides, custom bike show, trade stands – or just chill out with a Guinness or two, and soak up the atmosphere. If you prefer, why not join us for a ride out around the beautiful Ring of Kerry? Or ride the spectacular Dingle Peninsular? Maybe you’d be blessed with the ‘gift of the gab’ if you kissed the Blarney Stone! All are within comfortable riding distances of Killarney, a lovely town well worth exploring in it’s own right. Mileage variable
Day 5: the road again today and heading back towards the east coast, passing through Limerick, home of the famous 5-line verse. Our scenic route takes us through the heart of the Emerald Isle, then along the picturesque coastline to our comfortable hotel. 269 miles
Day 6: After breakfast, we’re heading for Larne & the ferry homeward. Once across the Irish Sea, we’ll ride back to Gretna Green via the pretty coastal route. We then continue back to Newcastle, & the end of the tour, where we say our goodbyes, and wish everyone a safe journey home. We hope you have enjoyed your Irish Tour with us, and look forward to riding with you again soon. 211 miles
